Through the Lens of Barabbas
FREEDOM FROM DEATH FORETOLD
So Abraham called the place “The LORD will Provide”. And it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided. Genesis 22:14
Aaron is to cast lots for the two goats – one for the Lord and the other for the scapegoat. Aaron shall bring the goat whose lot falls to the Lord and sacrifice it for a sin offering. But the goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat”, or the goat of Azazel your Scripture might say. “…shall be presented alive before the LORD to be used for making atonement by sending it into the wilderness as a scapegoat.” Leviticus 16:8-10
“The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming – not the realities themselves. For this reason, it can never, by the same sacrifices repeatedly endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.” Hebrews 10:1-4
FREEDOM FROM DEATH DISPLAYED
Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested. A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising. The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did. ‘Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?’ asked Pilate, knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him. But the chief priest stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas instead. Mark 15:6-11
At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas. Matthew 27:16
Because you are His sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father. Galatians 4:6
Then he released Bar-Abbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed Him over to be crucified. Matthew 27:26
Freedom From Death Forever
This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put Him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised Him from the dead, freeing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on Him. Acts 2:23-24
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:13
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
